Sergio Camporeale was born in 1937 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is one of most-shown and internationally well-known Latin American artists. He graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón in 1961 and has exhibited all over the world, in Europe and Tel Aviv, Latin America and the United States, as well as Tokyo and Singapore. A more recent show in which he participated was a 2011 exhibition of Latin American artists of Italian descent in Washington, D.C. He has represented Argentina in many international biennial events. He now divides his time between Buenos Aires and Paris. He specializes in watercolor, acrylics and printmaking. He is quoted as being bored by works that are too abstract and creates canvasses with characters that stage a kind of dramatic comedy and have a story to tell, though the story is created by the viewer. He is quoted as saying, “Each painting is a riddle without a solution … there are characters that move from one work to another. … I seek the complicity of the viewer in creating another reality, to unravel what is happening in the work and turn it into poetry. … Only the viewer knows how the story will end.”

Sergio Camporeale nació en 1937 en Buenos Aires, Argentina y es uno de los artistas latinoamericanos más conocidos y exhibidos internacionalmente. Graduó de la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón en 1961 and ha tenido exhibiciones por todo el mundo, en Europa, Tel Aviv, Latinoamérica y los Estados Unidos, también incluyendo a Tokyo y Singapore. Una exhibición más reciente fue en 2011 donde fue parte de una exposición de arte creado por artistas Latinoamericanos de descendencia Italiana en Washington DC. Ha representado a su país de Argentina en varios Bienales Internacionales. En tiempos presentes divide su tiempo viviendo en Buenos Aires y Paris. Se especializa en acuarelas, acrílica, e impresiones. Ha dicho que se aburre con arte abstracto y crea lienzos con personajes que hacen un tipo de drama comédico y que cuentan un cuento, aunque la historia es creada por el espectador. Camporeale dice-“Cada pintura es una adivinanza sin solución…hay personajes que se mueven de una obra a la otra…Busco la complicidad del espectador para crear otra realidad, desenredar qué es lo que pasa en la obra y convertirla en poesía…Solo el espectador sabe cómo terminará el cuento.”
